SEED 2 FEED
|
Seed-2-Feed operates ECO City Farms, which is an educational nonprofit organization whose main goals are to focus on the community food issues in Prince George’s County and the greater Chesapeake area, and to actively show the benefits of growing chemically free produce in urban/suburban areas. These benefits include community empowerment, economic development, job training and community health benefits, which are all very significant to Prince George's County residents.
The core operation of ECO City Farms is located in Edmonston, Maryland, a city inside of Prince George’s County. The initial purpose of the organization was to serve as a beginning stage or step for sustainable local urban farming. ECO City Farms aims to one day establish a vigorous food system in the Chesapeake area with fertile soil, quality environments and steady incomes for farmers, and access to nutritious, fresh quality food for everyone. ECO City Farms has expanded its focus to more communities in Prince George’s County, such as Port Towns of Edmonston, Cottage City, Colmar Manor, Bladensburg, and the other surrounding communities with little to no access to healthy food. The organization hopes their work transforms these communities to where residents will have greater access to affordable, healthy produce and increased opportunities for active living. In addition, ECO City Farms seeks to preserve the diversity in culture and ecology and to speed up the transition to a future economy being centered around preservation, recycling and restoration. By increasing the volume of a community's voice, ECO City Farms will create sustainable ways of making food and money beyond the boundaries of Prince George's County, Maryland.
